The Epitaph Project begins with a research-driven mapping of the Sprague Family Lot at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, Rhode Island, using tombstone inscriptions and archival obituaries to reconstruct lineage and memory. From this historical investigation, the project expands into a broader question: what defines an epitaph, and is remembrance confined to engraved stone?

Through a series of design explorations culminating in an interactive website, the project invites users to reflect on legacy in a personal and participatory way. By composing their own epitaph and designing a digital tombstone, visitors engage with the question: How do you want to be remembered?
